Three Peaks Dolomites active

SAVE THE DATE: from 5 to 9 July 2023 in Auronzo the Junior and Under 23 World Speed Canoe Championships, for the first time in an Alpine lake. A natural gym under the sky. This is the territory of the Consorzio Turistico Tre Cime Dolomiti in Veneto. The Belluno Dolomites with the Auronzo and Misurina valleys are a true natural paradise where all kinds of mountain sports activities can be practised. Naturally, walking and hiking, but also climbing. Fundamental is the presence of lakes that also allow those disciplines linked to the water world to be practised, including canoeing and fishing. A world of opportunities for those who enjoy an active holiday.

Between walking and trekking, following your own pace

Follow the path into the dense forest and walk while listening to the sounds of nature. The scent of moss, the sun’s rays penetrating the trees, letting yourself be guided by your own rhythm. Or go straight to your destination, one step after the other, uphill. Feeling your calves tugging, your heart beating and your breath becoming laboured as the road becomes steeper, up to the top, until you reach that vantage point that makes up for all your fatigue. Or climbing to the summit, hooked on a steel cable, paying attention to every single step. There are many different ways of walking and savouring the mountain. Everyone can choose the one that suits them best, depending on their training, but also on the day. The Consorzio Turistico Tre Cime area offers over 200 kilometres of marked trails, including relaxing walks and challenging trails, equipped paths and via ferrata, forest roads and high altitude crossings. The ever-changing landscape allows you to cross valleys and forests, glades and screes, rocks and sheer walls along the way. But above all, it offers spectacular views thanks to the imposing Dolomite peaks, a Unesco World Heritage Site. From the Tre Cime di Lavaredo to the Cadini di Misurina, from the Croda dei Toni to the Marmarole, from the Sorapiss to the Cristallo, from the Cridola to the Tudaio.

From the ring of the Tre Cime to Monte Agudo

Of all the routes, there is one experience that remains etched in the memory: the tour of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo. As you ascend, by car or on foot for the more energetic, along the hairpin bends of the traffic-controlled road leading to the starting point of the hike, you enjoy the landscape, at first completely green and lush, then increasingly bare of vegetation, harsh. The Auronzo Refuge is located at an altitude of 2,320 metres, just below the south face of the Three Peaks, and it is from here that the circular route is taken to admire this masterpiece of nature. The Three Pe aks stand out in all their majesty and grandeur, offering a breathtaking spectacle. Just two kilometres from Auronzo is the Monte Agudo ski resort. Known for its winter ski descents, during the summer season it is the ideal starting point for high altitude walks, thanks to its two chairlifts, including a modern four-seater with automatic coupling. In 15 minutes, from the Taiarezze resort at 900 metres above sea level, you can reach the Monte Agudo refuge at 1,573 metres above sea level and enjoy a splendid panorama of Auronzo and the Tre Cime di Lavaredo. From here, several well-marked paths depart to continue the walk through nature.

Climbing with a guide

There is no shortage of climbing enthusiasts in the Veneto region, in the area of the Consorzio Turistico Tre Cime. Rock climbing, sport climbing in crags, equipped routes and vie ferrate are the proposals of the Tre Cime Alpine Guides for an approach to climbing in complete safety, followed by competent and prepared people. The ideal place to try the breeze of a via ferrata climb is Monte Paterno, thanks to an easy equipped route that allows you to become familiar with the discipline. The walking time is 6 hours, about 4 kilometres with an altitude difference of 500 metres. If you love Nordic Walking, there are numerous instructors available to introduce you to this discipline. There are also tennis courts, an 18-hole mini golf course, bocce courts and table tennis. For those who don’t want to miss out on the adrenaline: Fun Bob, the 3 km track that allows you to reach 45 km per hour, and Adventure Park, with no less than five aerial courses at different heights, suitable for all ages.

From canyoning to grayling fishing

If water is your element, in the territory of the Tre Cime Dolomiti Tourist Consortium in Veneto you can dedicate yourself to canoeing. All ‘thanks’ to Lake Auronzo, where hundreds of athletes from all over the world compete every year in prestigious canoe, kayak and dragon boat competitions. From the Speed Canoe and Kayak Race to the International Speed Canoe Race, from the Women in Pink event with Dragon Boat races to the Junior and Under 23 World Speed Canoe Championships. Also known as Lake Santa Caterina, Lake Auronzo boasts a series of pluses that make it perfect for hosting club and national team retreats and stages. Theseinclude: automatic starting blocks, mobile jetties that facilitate the entry and exit of boats and athletes from the water, a 9-lane race course, and a motor boat available to teams. TheASD Canoa Kayak Auronzo Misurina organises basic canoe courses open to adults and children from 8 years of age to learn the basics and have fun in total safety. Swimming enthusiasts will find the small Bucintoro pool in Auronzo, while in Pelos di Cadore there is the Piscina Sporting with an indoor pool, an outdoor pool with heated water, and a large solarium. And then there is regulated fishing in the lakes of Auronzo and Misurina, as well as in the dock of the Ansiei river. There are also two Catch & Release areas: one upstream of Lake Santa Caterina over a length of 900 metres, which is home to Danube grayling, and the other in Misurina, a real fish basin with equipped areas.

World Speed Canoe Championships for the first time in an Alpine lake

There are so many sporting events that enliven the summer of the Tre Cime Dolomiti Tourist Consortium in Veneto. A rich calendar both for athletes who want to actively participate and for those who want to watch the prestigious races, to cheer and be amazed by the sporting prowess. Among them, on the weekend of 16-18 June 2023, Lake Santa Caterina in Auronzo will host the International Speed Canoe Race. While from 5 to 9 July 2023 the World Junior and Under 23 Speed Canoe Championships will take place for the Junior 17 to 18 years and Under 23 19 to 23 years categories. The excellent organisation of the 2018 Junior and U23 European Championships has certainly played in Auronzo’s favour, strengthened above all by the heritage that the area holds, a combination of sport, landscape and culture consolidated over time and a resource for the local economy. The exceptionality of the event is also given by the fact that usually speed canoe competitions, at this level, take place in artificial reservoirs: it is the first time ever that a world competition of this discipline takes place in an alpine lake and in a mountain context.

Three Peaks Dolomites, slow mountain

Slow, sustainable, aware. Slow tourism applies to the mountains and characterises the philosophy of the Tre Cime Dolomiti tourist board in Veneto. Here, in the heart of the Belluno Dolomites, the holiday is authentic relaxation that comes from unspoilt landscapes, where nature is the real protagonist. This is not the mountain of hotel chains, of crowded slopes, of large numbers. It is the land of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, Auronzo and Misurina. A natural paradise where you can find your own dimension and rhythm, savour hospitality and authenticity. For a holiday that regenerates. tre-cime.info
