Marne 180 Amarone della Valpolicella Docg 2019

Marne 180 Amarone della Valpolicella Docg 2019, Tedeschi’s style wins 97 points and a platinum medal from Decanter.

At the 2023 edition of the Decanter World Wine Awards, the largest and most influential wine competition in the world, the Marne 180 Amarone della Valpolicella Docg 2019 convinced the jury for its “simple” originality, achieved by the Tedeschi family by selecting grapes produced in different vineyards of the winery

“Balsamic nose full of complex aromas of ripe dark plums, sultanas, black cherries, chocolate and savoury notes. On the palate it is warm, ample and intense, supported by a lively acidity”: these are the characteristics acknowledged to the Marne 180 Amarone della Valpolicella Docg 2019 by the judges of the Decanter World Wine Awards, who awarded 97 points and the platinum medal to the wine of Azienda Tedeschi di Pedemonte di Valpolicella.

“It is a result that gratifies us greatly and rewards our constant work to enhance the value of the soils of origin. In the Marne 180 we made a different choice from the cru,’ explains Sabrina Tedeschi, ‘deciding to make the best possible use of the different vineyards cultivated in marl-based soils, selecting them from those with south-west to south-east exposure, as emphasised in the name we chose. From their different grapes, we obtained a well-balanced wine with good structure, characterised by intense and fresh aromatic notes. This combination of characteristics makes it a well-drinking Amarone. We call it the gastronomic Amarone that knows how to surprise‘.

A long-lasting wine, Marne 180 Amarone della Valpolicella Docg is obtained from grapes harvested in mid-September-early October, dried for at least 90 days in cold drying rooms and subjected to soft crushing. After 40-60 days of maceration, it is aged for 30 months in Slavonian oak barrels and 6 months in the bottle. There were 18,250 wines entered in the Decanter World Wine Awards this year, from 57 countries. Only 125 won the platinum medal, 28 Italians; 705 the gold medal, 5,604 the silver and 8,165 the bronze, plus 50 best in show. With the platinum medal from Decanter, the Marne 180 Amarone Docg adds another accolade to its history. Always judged with high scores, with the 2017 vintage it was ranked 56th in its Top 100 by Wine Spectator. tedeschiwines.com
